70ft Converted River Class ex Working Boat. Wood under cloth conversion. Powered by a Gardner 4LK marine diesel engine.
Commissioned by British Waterways in 1959 as part of a working fleet, this boat has been built using extremely solid construction methods. She has now been sympathetically converted and retains her former working boat appearance; including traditional style canvas. This boat offers spacious 4/5 berth accommodation, has a traditional boatmans cabin, engine room and a versatile forward well deck.

The Interior Boat Plan
From the Bow
|
From the bow which holds the steel water tank, there is a 9 well deck with cratch board and covers.

Generic fixtures and fittings
The main cabin is constructed from 3/4in marine ply externally with 2in insulation and 1/2in marine ply internally. The interior of the cabin is painted and framed in solid wood. Doors and bulkheads are also constructed from plywood that has been framed with solid wood. Floors throughout are solid wood with the bedroom and lounge areas being covered by heather coloured hardwearing carpet.
Well deck 9
|
Very large front well deck with plenty of room below for storage and the space used above can be used for storage or enjoying outdoor dining.. The deck is covered in oak planking with an access hatch to storage space beneath. The cratch board has a large brass opening porthole and an interior halogen light.

Bedroom 15
|
Gothic style spilt stable, front doors. Wood lined internally with Burr oak panelling, open out onto the deck.
Fixed furniture: Cabinet and bookshelves constructed around a butty towing mast by the front doors: 46 x 66 double bed that can be raised via a rope and pulley system for easier passage through the boat and to allow access to storage space beneath.
2 x chests of drawers under the bed. Shelving and corner work area constructed from solid English elm, oak and yew. 1 x drawer and cupboard unit.
Heating: 1 x central heating radiator.
Power: 6 x 240v power sockets.
Lighting: 1 x 11 porthole. 1 x set of side doors, oak panelled internally. 1 x 12v mast lamp. 3 x 12v halogen spot lights.
Flooring: Heather carpet tiles.
Other Features: Hull ribs have been capped to form pillars of English oak.

Lounge 15
|
Fixed Furniture: Full height wardrobe. 1 x fixed settee with storage space beneath and video shelves behind. 1 x low level TV and Hi-Fi shelving unit. 1 x coffee table. 3 x shelves and a DVD/CD rack. 1 x shelf. Cupboard housing gas/240v fridge.
All of the fixed furniture in the lounge has been lovingly constructed from solid Burr elm, English oak or yew and varnished to a high gloss finish. Walls are painted in pale blue.
Heating: Morso Squirrel solid fuel stove with back boiler set on a quarry tiled hearth with a unique mosaic style tiled surround.
Power: 6 x 240v power sockets.
Lighting: 2 x 11 portholes. 2 x sets of side doors oak panelled internally. 3 x 12v halogen spot lights.
Flooring: Heather carpet tiles.

Galley 7 3
|
The galley is lined in pine tongue and groove and has custom built units and worktops in solid pine. All wood has been varnished to a high gloss finish.
Base units: 1 x double base cupboard with large drawer over. 1 x four drawer unit. Storage space beneath the sink.
Wall units: Glass fronted wall cupboards to both sides of the galley.
Appliances: Dark brown domestic sized slot in gas cooker. Porcelain Butler sink with antique brass taps. Vaillant gas water heater.
Heating: 1 x central heating radiator.
Power: 2 x 240v power sockets.
Lighting: 1 x porthole. 1x 12v ceiling mounted round brass light. 1 x double florescent light in the toilet. 1 x 12v brass halogen spot light.
Flooring: Solid pine floor boards.

Wet Area
|
At the aft of the galley is a combined shower/toilet compartment. The waterproof floor is lined in gel coated fibreglass. The toilet is a Simpson Lawrence sea cock, and the owners currently use a porta potti. Purchasers may wish to upgrade to a cassette or pump out toilet.

Engine room 7
|
The separate engine room houses the vintage Gardner 4LK engine that takes centre stage. All the other usual hardware for the running of the boat is also housed in this area.
Light: 1 x 8 porthole. 2 x sets of side doors, one with roof hatch. 1 x roof mounted steel pigeon box with 4 small hand made brass portholes and a traditional horses bell. 1 x 12v ceiling mounted round brass light.
Power: 4 x 240v sockets. 2 x 12v sockets.
Heating: 1 x central heating radiator.
Flooring: Two inch thick Black yew to the walk through side of the engine with painted Pine to the opposite side.

Boatmans Cabin 9
|
Double doors from the engine room lead through to the traditional Boatmans cabin
Furniture: Traditional drop down double bed and childs single bed. Table cupboard with drop down door/table with drawer and cupboard beneath and a cupboard above. Cupboard, cubby holes and ticket drawer by the stern doors.
Heating: Jotul solid fuel range
Lighting: 1 x 7 porthole. 1 x roof mounted bulls-eye skylight. 1 x 12v ceiling mounted brass round light.
Power: 2 x 240v sockets.

Stern 3 6
|
Steps up from the boatmans cabin and steel rear doors wood lined internally and traditionally decorated, with sliding roof hatch leads to the rear deck and steering position.
Controls: The engine is controlled from the steering position by a speed-wheel and gear lever. The original single level control is still in place.

Heating is provided by the Morso Squirrel solid fuel stove in
the lounge with a back boiler running three radiators and/or
by the Jotul solid fuel range in the boatmans cabin.

EXTERIOR FINISH
The boat has been fully re-painted in this year. She was
last docked for hull blacking in 2000.
ADDITIONAL ITEMS OF INVENTORY
The boat comes equipped with the normal cruising
inventory including ropes and fenders. Any other items
must be by separate negotiation with the owners.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The boat is powered by a Gardener 4LK, 70hp, 4 cylinder, water cooled, marine diesel engine, coupled to a custom made PRM 750 with 1:1 reduction ahead turning the propeller. The exhaust is lagged, silenced and vents out via a chimney on the roof. The engine powers two 12v alternators to charge the start
battery and two leisure batteries.
