44ft Trad Stern Narrowboat Reduced £29,995

Black Grouse is a handsome 44ft trad stern narrow boat, built in 2012 by Paul Widowson and the first owner. The cleverly laid out interior offers 2+2 berth accommodation with two sets of side doors and new double-glazed windows. The BSSC expires in June 2026. She was last blacked in 2019 with two-pack epoxy. She would make an ideal starter boat for cruising holidays, or as a compact live-aboard. A survey from 2017 is available on request. Background

Quality 10/6/4/mm steelwork with two sets of side doors and a trad stern by Paul Widowson. Good quality self-fit-out by the first owner in painted ply with painted wooden trims offering 22 berth accommodation. Powered by a Beta Marine 43hp, 4 cylinder marine diesel engine with a PRM 150 D2 gearbox. Vetus 55kgf electric bow thruster with controls at the stern.

From the Bow

From the bow which holds the gas locker, there is a 4ft 9in self draining well deck. There is a wooden cratch frame with windows to the front and a vinyl cover. There are locker/seats to either side of the well deck. The headlamps are mounted on the front of the cratch.

Generic Fixtures and Fittings

The ceilings are lined with painted ply panels with painted wooden trims. The cabin sides and hull sides are a lined with a mixture of painted and wall papered ply with painted solid wood trims. The floor is laid with wood laminate to the saloon, tile effect laminate to the galley, wooden planks and ply to the bathroom and carpet to the bedroom.

Saloon 9ft 8in

Steel ⅔ glazed front doors, wood lined internally open out onto the front deck with storage steps down into the saloon.

Loose Furniture: 2 seat sofa bed that converts to a double bed. Storage chest.

Heating: Morso Squirrel solid fuel stove with back boiler set on a stone hearth with tiled surround.

The walk-through galley has custom built units with white high gloss laminate doors and solid wood worktops and ceramic tiled splash-backs.

Aft of the bedroom is the trad area where the engine is housed under the floor panels as well as all the electrical hardware for the running of the boat. Steel rear doors, wood panelled internally with extra large sliding roof hatch lead to the rear deck and steering position.

Controls: The single lever engine control is on the port side just inside the stern doors.

The boat is powered by a Beta Marine 43hp, 4-cylinder, marine diesel engine coupled to a PRM 150 D2 gearbox with 2: 1 reduction, turning the propeller. The exhaust is lagged, silenced and vents out from under the side deck.
The engine powers twin 12v alternators to charge the start battery and the 4 leisure batteries.

BOW-THRUSTER
Vetus 55kgf electric bow thruster with controls at the stern

WATER
The 550 litre stainless steel water tank is located in the bow. Water pump with pressure switch is located adjacent to the tank. Twin coil calorifier is heated by the back boiler on the solid fuel stove in the saloon and the engine heat exchanger.

HEATING
Heating is provided by the Morso Squirrel solid fuel stove with back boiler in the saloon which runs a radiator and a towel rail.

240v circuit from landline with RCD.
12v lights throughout protected by fuses.
2 x 12v, engine driven alternators.
1 x 12v, engine start battery.
4 x 12v, deep cycle leisure batteries.
