55ft Trad Stern Tug REDUCED £36,499

Bucyrus is a desirable Tug, with traditional Boatman's cabin and sofa bed sleeping 4 people. She has a vintage Ruston Hornsby engine in its own engine room. This boat has been subject to a series of improvements by the current owner and due to be docked for blacking before sale. The exterior paintwork is in need of some refurbishment and this is reflected in the asking price.


55ft Tug style Trad narrowboat. Quality steelwork with tug deck, 3 sets of side doors and a trad stern by Dual Duel. Traditional fit-out in pine tongue and groove and painted plywood. Powered by a vintage Ruston Hornsby, 33hp diesel engine housed in it’s own engine room.

From the Bow

From the bow which holds the gas locker, there is a 7’ tug deck. The stainless steel water tank is located beneath the deck with a surface mounted filler. The headlamp is mounted on a mast at the bow.

Generic fixtures and fittings

The ceilings are pine tongue and groove. Cabin and hull sides are lined with painted plywood. All the interior wood has been painted or varnished. Flooring throughout is carpet in the saloon, the galley and the Boatman’s cabin have solid wood and the bathroom wood effect laminate.

Saloon 11ft 9in

Steel front doors, fully glazed open out onto the tug deck with steps down into the saloon. Access to the storage space beneath the tug deck.

Fixed Furniture: Large fixed settee which converts into a double bed and has storage space in the base. 1 x cabinet with drawer. Full height cabinet with drop down table/door, cupboard beneath and traditionally decorated panels.

Heating: Lockgate, diesel fired stove with back boiler set on a stone hearth with ceramic tiled surround.

Lighting: 2 x brass portholes with drop back openings. 2 x 12v, ceiling lights. 4 x 12v, wall lights.

Power: 2 x 240v sockets.

Galley 7ft

The walk through galley has custom built units in pine with painted door fronts. Worktops are solid wood and mosaic tiled with ceramic tiled splash-backs.

Base units: 2 x double cupboards. 1 x single cupboard that extends into the corner. 5 x drawer unit. Corner shelves. Fridge housing. Oven housing with drawer below.

Wall Units: Decorative pine plate rack and shelving unit

Appliances: Country Leisure built in gas oven and grill. Spinflo inset four burner gas hob. 240v, Delta fridge with icebox. Belfast sink with chrome monobloc tap.

Lighting: 2 x brass portholes with drop back openings. 1 x set of steel side doors, with internal wood panelling. 4 x 12v, ceiling lights.

Power: 2 x 240 sockets.

Bathroom 5ft 3in

The cabin bathroom has a white suite comprising:

Suite: 4’ bath with shower over. Wall mounted porcelain wash basin with chrome mixer tap. Brand new Thetford Porta-Potti toilet.

Storage: Full height storage cupboard accessed from the corridor.

Heating: 1 x small radiator.

Lighting: 1 x brass porthole with privacy glass and drop back opening. 1 x 12v , ceiling light.

Corridor Lighting: 1 x 12v, ceiling light.

Engine Room 5ft 6in

The traditional style engine room houses the vintage Ruston Hornsby diesel engine and control panel. All the other usual hardware for the running of the boat is also housed in this area.

Lighting: 2 x sets of steel side doors, wood panelled internally and traditionally decorated. 1 x pigeon box. 3 x 12v, wall lights.

Power: 1 x 240v socket.

Boatmans Cabin

Aft of the engine room is the traditional boatman’s cabin with all the usual fixtures and fittings. Cabin sides and ceiling are lined with tongue and groove. The Boatman’s cabin is traditionally finished with scumble paintwork and roses & castles.

Fixed Furniture: Side bed with storage space underneath. Drop down double bed with cupboards above and a drawer beneath. Angled table cupboard with drop down door/table, drawer and cupboard beneath. Cubby holes and cupboard on the aft bulkheads. Ticket drawer.

Heating: Boatman’s solid fuel range.

Lighting: 1 x brass porthole with drop back opening. 1 x 12v, ceiling light. 1 x 12v, brass wall light.

Stern 3ft 8in

From the boatman’s cabin, steel rear doors and sliding roof hatch, wood panelled internally with traditionally decorated panels lead to the rear deck and steering position.

Controls: The single lever engine controls are just inside the stern doors.

The boat is powered by a vintage Ruston Hornsby, 33hp diesel engine with parsons gearbox turning the propeller. The exhaust is lagged, silenced and vents out through the roof via a chimney. The engine powers a 12v alternator to charge the start battery and 3 leisure batteries.

The stainless steel water tank is housed under the tug deck. Water pump with pressure switch is adjacent to the tank. Twin coil calorifier is heated by the Lockgate diesel fired stove with boiler and/or the engine heat exchanger.

Heating is provided by the Lockgate diesel fired stove with back boiler running 1 radiator and the Boatman’s range in the back cabin.

The boat was painted using quality coach enamels when built and is in good condition. The boat will be docked for blacking and the anodes checked before the boat is sold.

The boat comes equipped with the normal cruising inventory including ropes and fenders. Any additional items not listed must be negotiated separately with the owners.

Moorings are available by separate negotiation.
