70ft Trad Stern Narrowboat SOLD - £79,995

Commander's Daughter is a very handsome high spec 70ft live-aboard, trad stern narrowboat. She was completed in 2006 by the highly regarded builder G & J Reeves with a Josher bow and rivet detailing to the hull sides. She looks virtually brand new both inside and out. She is fitted with a Beta JD3 Tug engine and hydraulic drive system, which provides a very smooth and quiet propulsion system. She was last out of the water for blacking & survey in August 2018. Lying in Staffs.


70ft Trad style narrow boat. Quality 10/6/6/4 mm steelwork by G & J Reeves with four sets of steel side doors (two with top hatches), Josher bow, rivet detail and a trad stern. There is a new cratch and cover to the front. High quality professional fit-out by Stowe Hill Marine offering comfortable 6 berth accommodation in cherry. The traditional style boatman’s cabin is painted in scumble with Roses and Castles. Powered by a Beta JD3 Tug diesel engine coupled to an ARS hydraulic drive system that is also used to power the bow thruster. Speed wheel and push pull controls.BSSC to September 2021.

From the Bow

From the bow which houses the gas locker there is a 4′ 6″ well deck with a hard wood cratch frame with window to the front and a zipped and studded vinyl cover. There is a locker/seat to the front of the well deck with a drop down table. The water tank is located below the well deck with a surface mounted filler. The headlamp is mounted on a mast on the bow.

Generic fixtures and fittings

The ceilings are lined with painted tongue & groove trimmed in solid cherry. The hull sides and cabin sides are lined with cherry faced plywood panels with solid cherry trims except in the engine room and Boatman's cabin which have painted tongue and groove. All interior wood has been painted or varnished. The flooring is solid wood planking throughout apart.

Saloon 11′ 6″

Wooden, ½ glazed, leaded front doors, open out onto the well deck.
Fixed Furniture: 1 x half height cupboard. Under gunwale shelving unit.
Loose Furniture: 2 x swivel/recline armchairs with matching foot stools.
Heating: Firefox solid fuel stove set on a raised hearth with tiled surround. Fin rads.
Lighting: 2 x fixed portholes. 1 x Houdini hatch. 6 x 12v, LED ceiling lights. 4 x 12v, halogen wall lights.
Other Features: Avtex, 21″ flat screen TV. Panasonic DVD player. Panasonic surround sound system.

Dinette 6′ 2″

Fixed Furniture: Raised Pullman style dinette, with padded bench seats. There is storage space beneath the seats and the dinette converts into a double berth

Galley 7′

The "U" Shaped galley has custom built units with solid cherry panelled door and drawer fronts. Worktops are walnut veneer with tiled splash-backs.
Base units: 1 x double cupboard that extends into the corners. Oven housing. Fridge housing.
Wall Units: 3 x wall cupboards with small drawers below. Wall shelves with fiddle rails.
Appliances: Vanette 4000/2, inset four burner gas hob. Vanette GG700, built in gas oven with separate oven and grill. 12v, Shoreline fridge. Inset, Butlers sink and drainer with brass effect Swans neck tap.

Bathroom 6′

The full width bathroom has a white suite comprising:
Suite: Cast iron roll top bath with telephone style mixer shower and a shower curtain. Vanity unit with porcelain wash bowl, brass effect taps and a cupboard beneath. Jabsco pump-out toilet. Wall mounted mirror.
Storage: Wall mounted bathroom cabinet.

All the other usual hardware for the running of the boat is also housed in this area.

Boatman‘s cabin 8′ 2″

Aft of the utility area is the traditional style boatman‘s cabin which has traditional decoration and the usual fixtures and fittings.
Fixed Furniture: Bench seat with storage space underneath. Boatman‘s drop down bed with cupboards above and below. Angled table cupboard with drop down door/table, built in CD/radio player and a cupboard beneath. Cubby holes on the aft bulkhead.
Heating: Premier Boatman‘s range.

Stern 3′ 7″

Steel rear doors and sliding roof hatch, wood panelled internally lead to the rear deck and steering position.
Controls: The engine controls are traditional speed wheel and push pull gear lever.

The 900 litre integral steel water tank is located beneath the well deck. Water pump with pressure switch is located adjacent to the tank. Twin coil calorifier is heated by the 240v immersion heater, Webasto diesel fired boiler and/or the engine heat exchanger.

Heating is provided by the Firefox solid fuel stove in the saloon, Webasto diesel fired boiler running fin radiators and the Premier Boatman’s Range in the Boatman’s cabin.

The boat was professionally painted in July 2018 using quality coach enamels. The boat was last docked for blacking in August 2018. The hull is protected by 6 anodes.

The boat comes equipped with a normal cruising inventory including a full set of ropes and fenders. Any additional items not listed must be negotiated separately with the owner.

The boat is powered by a Beta JD3 Tug, 3 cylinder, 30hp diesel engine coupled to ARS hydraulic drive system, turning the propeller. The exhaust is lagged, silenced and vents out through a chimney in the roof. The engine powers twin 12v alternators to charge the start battery and the 4 leisure batteries.

Current moorings are available by separate negotiation.
