62ft Trad Stern Narrowboat by SM Hudson SOLD - £74,995

Red Red Wine 2 is a beautiful high specification 62ft live-aboard spec, Steve Hudson narrowboat with traditional Boatman's cabin and engine room. She was completed by Steve Hudson in 2003 with classic lines including a Josher bow and is fitted with a Beta JD3 Tug engine with just 2010 hours. Last out of the water for blacking in May 2018, Boat Safety Certificate to July 2022. A survey from 2016 is available by request. She is a wonderfully presented boat, viewing recommended.


62ft Trad style narrow boat. Stylish 15/6/5/4 mm steelwork by S.M. Hudson with three sets of steel side doors (two with top hatches), Josher bow, forward hold and cratch cover and a trad stern. She sits low in the water giving beautiful lines. Outstanding fit-out by S.M. Hudson offering comfortable 2-5 berth accommodation in oak with solid oak and sapele trims. The traditional style boatman’s cabin is painted in scumble with Roses and Castles. Powered by a Beta JD3 Tug diesel engine coupled to an PRM 260 gearbox. There is a bow-thruster tube fitted. Traditional speed wheel and push pull controls. BSSC to July 2022.

From the Bow

From the bow which houses the gas locker there is a 4’ 10” well deck with a hard wood cratch frame with windows to the front and a vinyl cover. There are locker/seats to either side of the well deck with a drop down table. The stainless steel water tank is located below the well deck with a surface mounted filler. The brass headlamp is mounted on a mast on the bow.

Generic fixtures and fittings

The ceilings, hull sides and cabin sides are lined with light oak faced plywood panels with either solid oak or sapele trims except in the traditional style engine room and Boatman's cabin which have tongue and groove. All interior wood has been painted or varnished. There are curtains or blinds to all windows.

Saloon 11′ 4″

Wooden, ½ glazed, front doors, open out onto the well deck with steps down into the spacious open plan saloon.

Fixed Furniture: 1 x half height corner cupboard with built in Pioneer radio/CD player. 2 x cabinets with glazed doors.

Loose Furniture: Table with folding legs that stows away under the gunwale

Heating: Squirrel diesel fired stove (converted to run on diesel by Lockgate) set on a tiled hearth and surround. 1 x central heating radiator.

Power: 4 x 240v sockets. 1 x TV aerial point. Intercom phone.

Lighting: 2 x fixed portholes. 2 x portholes with top openings. 1 x Houdini hatch with retractable fly screen. 3 x 12v, LED ceiling lights, one with a fan. 2 x 12v, LED wall lights.

Galley 6′ 11″

The walk through galley has custom built units in solid oak. Worktops are laminate edged in oak with tiled splash-backs.

Base units: 1 x double cupboard that extends into the corner. Full height oven and fridge housing. Dresser style unit with double cupboard below and a glazed cupboard above. Washing machine housing.

Wall Units: 1 x wall cupboard.

Appliances: Thetford, inset four burner gas hob new in 2016. Vanette GG7000, built in gas oven with separate oven and grill. 12v, Inlander fridge with icebox. Panasonic 800w microwave. Candy washing machine. Inset, stainless steel sink and separate drainer with monobloc tap.

Bedroom 9′

Furniture: Fixed four poster style double bed with storage below. 1 x double over-bed cupboard. 1 x wardrobe with cupboard above and full length mirror. Dressing table style unit with cupboards above and below and a wall mounted mirror.

A door from the corridor leads to the engine room with traditional decoration which houses the Beta JD3 Tug, 3 cylinder, 30hp diesel engine coupled to PRM 260 hydraulic gearbox. All the other usual hardware for the running of the boat is also housed in this area.

Boatman's Cabin 8′ 4″

Aft of the engine room is the traditional style boatman’s cabin which has traditional decoration and the usual fixtures and fittings.

Fixed Furniture: Day bed with storage space underneath. Boatman’s drop down bed with cupboards above and below. Angled table cupboard with drop down door/table and a cupboard beneath. Cubby holes and ticket drawer on the aft bulkhead.

Lighting: 1 x fixed porthole. 1 x 12v, ceiling light. 1 x 12v, gimbal light.

Power: 1 x 240v socket. Intercom phone.

Heating: Premier Boatman’s range.

Flooring: Painted plywood.

Stern 3′ 8″

Steel rear doors and sliding roof hatch, wood panelled internally with traditionally decorated panels lead to the rear deck and steering position.

Controls: The engine controls are traditional speed wheel and push pull gear lever.

The 124 gallon stainless steel water tank is located beneath the well deck. Water pump with pressure switch is located adjacent to the tank. Twin coil calorifier is heated by the 240v immersion heater, Hurricane diesel fired boiler and/or the engine heat exchanger.

Heating is provided by the Squirrel diesel fired stove in the saloon, Hurricane diesel fired boiler running 5 radiators and the Premier Boatman’s Range in the Boatman’s cabin.

The boat was professionally painted when built using quality coach enamels. The boat was last docked for blacking in May 2018. The hull is protected by 4 anodes and a galvanic isolator.

The boat comes equipped with a normal cruising inventory including a full set of ropes and fenders. Any additional items not listed must be negotiated separately with the owner.

The boat is powered by a Beta JD3 Tug, 3 cylinder, 30hp diesel engine coupled to PRM 260 hydraulic gearbox, turning the propeller. The exhaust is lagged, silenced and vents out through a chimney in the roof. The engine powers twin 12v alternators to charge the start battery and the 4 leisure batteries.

Current moorings are available by separate negotiation.
