53ft Trad Stern Narrowboat £54,995

Bijou is a beautifully presented 1999 three-owner narrow boat that has been maintained with care, and looks like a much younger boat. She has a cratch and cover to the front and a vinyl cover for the side doors. The exterior was repainted in 2011 by Adrian Pye and she was last docked for blacking in August 2018. She represents an excellent opportunity to acquire a lovely starter boat. Viewing recommended. Moorings are available by separate negotiation.

Background

53ft Trad stern narrow boat. Quality 10/6/4/mm steelwork with side doors, front cratch with cover and a trad stern by GT Marine. Fit-out to a very high standard by Barry Hawkins and the first owner in solid ash T & G with light ash veneered plywood offering comfortable 4 berth accommodation. Powered by a Beta Marine 43hp, 4 cylinder marine diesel engine with Newage PRM 150 D2 hydraulic gearbox. BSSC to July 2019.

From the Bow

From the bow which holds the gas locker, there is a 4′ 10″ self draining well deck with steel locker seat to the front. There is a wooden cratch frame with windows to the front and a vinyl cover. The stainless steel water tank is located beneath the well deck with a surface mounted filler.

Generic fixtures and fittings

The ceilings are lined with solid light ash tongue and groove. Cabin sides and hull sides are lined with ash veneered plywood panels trimmed with solid light ash. All interior wood has been varnished to a gloss finish. There are curtains or blinds to all windows. Flooring throughout is carpet except to the galley which has vinyl flooring.

Saloon 8′

Wooden, ½ glazed front doors open out onto the front deck with a storage step down into the saloon.

Fixed Furniture: 1 x half height corner cabinet.

Loose Furniture: 2 x swivel/recline armchairs with matching foot stools.

Other Features: Bush 32″ flat screen TV with built in DVD player.

Heating: Morso solid fuel stove set on a tiled hearth and surround. 1 x central heating radiator.

Dinette 6′ 2″

Fixed Furniture: “L” shaped fixed settee/dinette with padded bench seats. The dinette that converts into a double berth and has storage space beneath.

Loose Furniture: There is a small and a large table with desmo legs that can be used to form the dinette. The tables stow away under the gunwale.

Galley 8′

The walk through galley has custom built units with light ash door and drawer fronts. Worktops are laminate edged with ash. The splash-backs are steel with ceramic tiling.

Base units: 1 x double cupboard that extends into the corner. 1 x single cupboard. 1 x 4 drawer unit. 2 x corner cupboards. Oven housing. Fridge housing.

Wall Units: 1 x double cupboard with shelf beneath. 1 x single cupboard. 2 x wall mounted corner shelves.

Appliances: Vanette 4000/2, inset four burner gas hob. Vanette 7000, built-in gas oven and grill. 12v, Inlander fridge with icebox. Panasonic 1100w microwave. Inset, stainless steel sink and drainer with chrome monobloc tap.

Suite: 4′ hip bath with a mixer shower, glazed screen and shower curtain. Corner vanity unit with inset ceramic wash basin, chrome taps and a cupboard beneath. Thetford cassette toilet with a spare cassette.

Lighting: 1 x porthole with top hopper opening vent and privacy glass. 1 x 12v, fluorescent ceiling light.

Aft of the bedroom is the trad area where the engine is housed under the floor panels as well as all the electrical hardware for the running of the boat. Steel rear doors, wood panelled internally with sliding roof hatch lead to the rear deck and steering position.

Controls: The single lever engine control is on the port side just inside the stern doors.

WATER
The 100 gallon stainless steel water tank is located beneath the well deck. Water pump with pressure switch is located adjacent to the tank. Twin coil calorifier is heated by the Eberspacher diesel fired boiler and/or the engine heat exchanger.

HEATING
Heating is provided by the Morso solid fuel stove in the saloon and the Eberspacher diesel fired boiler running 3 radiators.

EXTERIOR FINISH
Complete exterior repaint in 2011 by Adrian Pye. The boat was last docked for blacking in August 2018. The hull is protected by 4 anodes and a galvanic isolator.

The boat comes equipped with a normal cruising inventory including a full set of ropes and fenders. Any additional items not listed must be negotiated separately with the owner.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The boat is powered by a Beta Marine 43hp, 4 cylinder, marine diesel engine coupled to a PRM 150 D2 hydraulic gearbox with 2:1 reduction, turning the propeller. The exhaust is lagged, silenced and vents out from under the side deck. The engine powers a 12v alternator to charge the start battery and the 5 leisure batteries.
