51ft Trad Stern Narrowboat £49,995

Jemma is a beautiful 1998 two-owner narrow boat with a boatman's cabin and engine room. She has been maintained with care, and looks like a much younger boat. There is a cratch and cover to the front, with a solid brass headlamp (originally from a fire engine). The interior has been very cleverly laid out to maximise the space available. Viewing recommended. The BSSC expires in October 2022. Moorings are available by separate negotiation.


51ft Trad style narrow boat. Quality 10/6/4mm steelwork by Marque Narrowboats with 3 sets of side doors, recessed rear panels and a trad stern. Fitted-out to a high standard by the first owner in solid ash T&G and oak faced ply offering 2-3 berth accommodation with a traditional style engine room and Boatman′s cabin. Powered by a Beta Marine BD3, 35hp tug engine with Newage PRM 260 D2 hydraulic gearbox. Speedwheel and push pull controls. Vetus electric bow thruster. Blacked and hull survey October 2019. BSSC to October 2022.

From the Bow

From the bow which holds the gas locker there is a 4′ self draining well deck with locker/seats to either side. There is a wooden cratch frame with windows to the front and a vinyl cover. The stainless steel water tank is located beneath the well deck with a surface mounted filler. The solid brass headlamp is mounted on the front of the cratch.

Generic fixtures and fittings

The ceilings and hull sides are lined with oak faced plywood trimmed with solid oak. Cabin sides are lined with solid ash T & G laid diagonally. All interior wood has been varnished. There are curtains or blinds to all windows. Flooring throughout is solid oak planks except to the engine room which is engineered deck board and the Boatman’s cabin which has carpet.

Saloon 8′ 6″

Wooden, ½ glazed front doors, open out onto the front deck with storage steps down into the saloon.

Fixed Furniture: 1 x half height corner cabinet. 1 x half height cupboard. 1 x under gunwale glazed display cabinet. 1 x drop leaf side table.

Loose Furniture: 2 x armchairs with a matching foot stool.

Heating: Morso solid fuel stove set on a raised. tiled hearth and surround. 1 x central heating radiator.

Other Features: 12v, Cello flat screen TV with built in DVD player. Sky mini box. Built in radio/CD player.

Galley 7′ 7″

The walk through galley has custom built solid oak cupboards and doors. Worktops are marble effect laminate edged in oak with ceramic tiled splash-backs.

Base units: 2 x single cupboards, one of which extends into the corner. Fridge housing. Oven housing. 2 x small drawers.

Wall Units: 1 x double cupboard with shelves to the side.

Appliances: Built in Vanette GG7000 gas oven with separate oven and grill. Vanette 4000/2 inset four burner gas hob. 12v, Inlander fridge with ice box. Inset sink and drainer with matching monobloc tap.

Lighting: 1 x brass porthole with top hopper opening vent. 1 x set of steel side doors, wood lined internally and traditionally decorated with fly screen and inner Perspex screen. 2 x 12v, LED ceiling lights.

Bathroom 5′ x 8″

The full width bathroom has a white suite comprising:

Suite: 4′ hip bath with brass effect mixer taps and shower attachment. Vanity unit with porcelain wash basin, brass effect taps and a cupboard beneath. Thetford cassette toilet with two spare cassettes. Wall mounted mirror.

Engine Room

The traditional style engine room houses the Beta Marine BD3, 35hp tug engine. All the other usual hardware for the running of the boat is also housed in this area.

Fixed Furniture: Drop down Boatman‘s bed with cupboards above and drawers below. Side bed with storage space underneath. Angled table cupboard with drop down door/table and a cupboard below. 2 x full height wardrobes. 1 x small cupboard on the aft bulkhead. Cubby holes to the aft bulkhead.

Heating: Epping Boatman‘s range.

Stern 3′

Steel rear doors and sliding roof hatch, wood panelled internally lead and traditionally decorated lead to the rear deck and steering position.

Controls: The engine controls are traditional speed wheel and push pull gear lever.

2 x propane cylinders housed in the bow locker provide gas to the oven, grill and hob.

The 85 gallon stainless steel water tank is located beneath the well deck. Water pump with pressure switch is located adjacent to the tank. Twin coil calorifier is heated by the Webasto diesel fired boiler, 240v immersion and/or the engine heat exchanger.

Heating is provided by the Morso solid fuel stove in the saloon, the Webasto diesel fired boiler running 2 radiators and 2 fin rads and the Epping Boatman‘s Range in the Boatman‘s cabin.

The boat was professionally painted when built. The boat was last docked for blacking in October 2019. The hull is protected by 4 anodes renewed in 2016 and a galvanic isolator.

The boat comes equipped with a normal cruising inventory including a full set of ropes and fenders. Any additional items not listed must be negotiated separately with the owner.

The boat is powered by a Beta Marine BD3, 3 cylinder 35hp tug engine coupled to a Newage PRM 260 D2 hydraulic gearbox with 2:1 reduction, turning the propeller. The exhaust is lagged, silenced and vents out through a chimney in the roof. The engine powers twin alternators to charge the 2 start batteries and the 4 leisure batteries.
