61ft Trad Stern Narrowboat £26,500

Ormiston is a 61ft live-aboard spec narrowboat, built by respected builder Colecraft with traditional Boatman's cabin and engine room. She was completed in 1998 and is fitted with a classic Lister engine. She was last out of the water for blacking in May 2016 and has a Boat Safety Certificate to November 2023. The exterior would benefit from a repaint and the painted interior trims would also benefit from a refresh both of which are reflected in the asking price.


60ft Trad style narrow boat. Stylish steelwork by Colecraft with two sets of steel side doors with top hatches a trad stern. Original fit-out by Colecraft, she has painted ply and T&G with painted solid wood trims offering 4 berth accommodation. Powered by a Classic 1949 Lister FR, 3 cylinder diesel engine coupled to a classic two speed gearbox. BSSC to November 2023.

From the Bow

From the bow which houses the gas locker there is a 3′ 6″ well deck with cratch A frame and board. There are seats to either side of the well deck. The stainless steel water tank is located below the well deck with a surface mounted filler. The headlamp is mounted on the front bulkhead.

Generic fixtures and fittings

The ceilings are lined with painted tongue & groove, painted plywood and painted wood trims. The hull sides and cabin sides are lined with painted plywood panels with painted wood trims. The flooring is wood effect laminate to the saloon, galley and engine room; carpet to the bedroom, corridor and Boatman’s cabin and ceramic floor tiles to the bathroom. There are curtains to all windows.

Saloon 14′ 3″

Wooden, ½ glazed, front doors, open out onto the well deck with a storage step down into the saloon.

Loose Furniture: 1 x large leather sofa. 1 x freestanding chest of drawers.

Heating: Colebrookdale solid fuel stove set on a stone hearth with tiled surround.

Galley 8′ 2″

The walk through galley has custom built units with painted shaker style doors. Worktops are granite effect laminate.

Wall Units: 1 x glazed wall cupboard. 1 x locker style wall cupboard. Various wall shelves.

Appliances: Inset four burner gas hob. Vanette GG2200, built in gas oven/grill. Inset, round stainless steel sink with chrome mixer tap.

Engine Room 6′

The traditional style engine room houses the Classic Lister FR, 3 cylinder, 20.5hp diesel engine coupled to the Lister 2 speed gearbox. All the other usual hardware for the running of the boat is also housed in this area.

Lighting: 2 x sets of steel side doors, wood lined internally, with a roof hatches and side steps. 1 x Pigeon box. 1 x 12v, strip light.

Boatman’s Cabin 9′

Aft of the engine room is the traditional style boatman’s cabin which has traditional decoration and the usual fixtures and fittings.

Fixed Furniture: Bench seat with storage space underneath. Boatman’s drop down bed with cupboards above and below. Angled table cupboard with drop down door/table and a cupboard beneath. Cubby holes and cupboards on the aft bulkhead.

Heating: Boatman’s range.

Lighting: 1 x fixed porthole. 1 x skylight. 1 x 12v, wall light.

Stern 3′ 5″

Steel rear doors and sliding roof hatch, wood panelled internally and traditionally decorated lead to the rear deck and steering position.

Controls: The single lever engine controls are just inside the rear doors on the starboard side.

3 x propane cylinders housed in the bow provide gas to the hob, oven/grill and the Alde boiler.

The stainless steel water tank is located beneath the well deck. Water pump with pressure switch is located adjacent to the tank. Twin coil calorifier is heated by the Alde gas fired boiler and/or the engine heat exchanger.

Heating is provided by the Colebrookdale solid fuel stove in the saloon, Alde gas fired boiler running 2 radiators (currently not used) and the Boatman’s Range in the Boatman’s cabin.

The exterior would benefit from a repaint. The boat was last docked for blacking in 2016. The hull is protected by 4 anodes renewed in 2016 and a galvanic isolator.

The boat comes equipped with a normal cruising inventory including a full set of ropes and fenders. Any additional items not listed must be negotiated separately with the owner.

The boat is powered by a classic 1949 Lister FR, 3 cylinder, 20.5hp diesel engine coupled to two speed Lister gearbox, turning the propeller. The exhaust is lagged, silenced and vents out through a chimney in the roof. The engine powers a 12v alternator to charge the start battery and the 3 leisure batteries.
